About us

Artemed is a specialty hospital in Munich. Its focus is on medical conditions of the veins and the skin. The Department of Phlebology and Vein Surgery is a so called Certified Vein Center of Competence and treats all venous diseases, for example, spider veins and varicose veins, as well as inflamed and septic veins. Both classic and modern procedures are utilized in the treatment. The team of specialists headed by Dr med Michael Hille performs over 4,500 vein surgeries annually. For the past few years, Professor Dr med Christian Kunte — in his capacity as head of the Department of Skin Surgery and Dermatology — has been establishing the hospital’s second focal point: the surgical treatment of skin diseases with special focus on benign and malign tumors.

Our medical staff are competent, experienced, and open to our patient’s questions and wishes. Every patient receives individual care with their personal situation always taken into account — from the first examination to the follow-up treatment. A follow-up survey allows patients to evaluate how satisfied they were with their treatment. The hospital has received excellent ratings and recommendations from its patients.

Artemed is located in the center of Munich, between the old town, the main station, and the “Theresienwiese”. The hospital is situated in a beautiful mansion, which is over 100 years old and has been used as a private clinic since 1905. Patients can opt for additional comprehensive convenience services and catering. These amenities are extraordinary in the context of a stationary treatment.

  • Phlebology

Today, above all, due to a lack of movement and seated activities over too long a period, more and more people suffer from venous conditions. These include spider veins and varicose veins, as well as “ulcerated leg”. But these conditions can generally be treated effectively and gently in a centre specialised in these conditions. The affected patient does not even have to wait until next winter for the removal of varicose veins. The Senior Consultant of the Department of Phlebology and Vein Surgery at the Artemed Specialist Clinic, Munich, Dr Michael Hille, emphasises that a treatment in the early summer or in summer does not mean that short dresses have to be given up during the warm part of the year. The earlier the treatment, the more rapidly difficult, painful legs become a thing of the past. Of course, high-quality treatment by competent vein specialists is a given. Essentially, varicose veins can recur following treatment (recurrence). With the aid of a technique developed at the Artemed Specialist Clinic, Munich, however, the rate of recurrence following varicose vein treatment has been reduced significantly. The Artemed Specialist Clinic, Munich specialises in removing varicoses precisely and gently with the best aesthetic results. The vein team can draw on a number of established methods for the treatment of varicose veins. After careful individual diagnosis, the specialists make the decision as to what treatment can be expected to produce the best result for each patient. As well as a variety of surgical methods and their minimally invasive alternative, the radio frequency technique, varicose veins can also be removed using a special adhesive technique. This technique is still very new but offers the best and gentlest variant for the patient of treating varicose veins. The effect is immediate and the patient does not even have to wear compression stockings following this minimally invasive procedure. Thanks to its extensive experience and specialisation, the Department of Phlebology and Vein Surgery at the Artemed Specialist Clinic, Munich, has been certified by a collaboration of the Professional Association of Phlebologists e.V. and the German Phlebology Association as a Vein Centre of Excellence. This certification is only awarded to hospitals which are able to demonstrate a high level of treatment quality and a high number of cases. As a result, the treatment quality for vein conditions can be compared nationwide. Apart from this, the Artemed Specialist Clinic in Munich is evaluated by further evaluation institutions and also encourages its patients to give their candid feedback, which is then carefully evaluated. In the process, the Clinic achieves very high recommendation levels by its patients. This is guaranteed by a continual adaptation of the processes to the desires of the patients and by the outstanding work of its specialists and the nursing personnel. Both conservative and surgical treatments are utilised in the treatment of the various vein conditions. Under the leadership of Dr Hille, the vein specialists utilise the most up-to-date technical equipment at the cutting edge of science for the most precise diagnoses and for competent and gentle surgical procedures. So, Dr Hille and his capable team are able to localise and display problematic sections of vein in a targeted manner and, based on the diagnosis, prepare an individual treatment plan for each patient. Dr Hille is a specialist in surgery and vascular surgery and completed his training as an endovascular surgeon at the Private Academy of the German Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine Association. In spite of his outstanding clinical expertise in the specialist field of phlebology and vein surgery, Dr Hille places great value on the human component of his work. His greatest concern is comprehensive advice and, in particular, the satisfaction of his patients following treatment.

  • Skin Cancer

The skin is the largest human sensory organ and also effectively protects the body from environmental effects. In addition, it fulfils functions in interpersonal relationships – in social circles, smooth, unblemished skin stands for health and youthfulness. The functions of the skin are as diverse as the possible conditions. Skin cancer is a very serious tumour condition, the treatment of which requires wide experience and expertise. But comparatively less serious conditions such as inflammations of the skin, contact allergies and other abnormalities, can also significantly limit the quality of life of those affected. In any case, it is important to be able to turn to an established skin specialist. With the Department of Dermatosurgery and Dermatology, a nationally distinguished skin centre has developed at the Artemed Specialist Clinic, Munich. It provides patients with skin conditions and skin problems with the entire range of diagnostic and treatment options in order to provide the affected patients with the best and, at the same time, the most gentle treatment. The range of services of the Artemed Specialist Clinic, Munich, and its Senior Consultant, the skin specialist, Prof. Christian Kunte, goes far beyond the range of an out-patients’ practice and stands for the highest treatment quality, with a high degree of patient satisfaction. The treatment does not end with the completed treatment of a condition – in many cases, suitable after-care is also required. Here, the patient is not left alone, but is actively supported in order to promote his long-term recovery. Prof. Kunte has more than 15 years of experience as a specialist in skin and venereal diseases and, as its Senior Consultant, heads the Department of Dermatosurgery and Dermatology. His clinical emphases are dermatosurgery and the diagnosis and treatment hair diseases and hyperhidrosis. Prof. Kunte has published a large number of contributions in specialist publications and is the author of textbooks on his fields of expertise. The skin specialist has also acquired an outstanding reputation as a scientific consultant for national and international specialist journals. He is an office-holder in various specialist associations and is the President of the German Dermatosurgery Association. The Artemed Specialist Clinic, however, relies not only on competent specialist personnel, from the Senior Consultant Prof. Kunte to the nursing staff; added to this is the outstanding technical diagnostic and surgical equipment, as well as the outstandingly broadly-based quality assurance measures. At the Specialist Clinic, the satisfaction of the patients comes first. The satisfaction surveys regularly completed by the patients are also evaluated. Thanks to its participation in various independent clinic evaluation institutions, the treatment quality at the Munich specialist clinic is comparable nationwide.
